About the Consul General
Honourable Habib Baba Habu, OON, a seasoned diplomat who has served Nigeria for over
thirty years in key positions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Nigeria
Diplomatic Missions abroad, assumed duty as the Consul General, Consulate General
of Nigeria, New York on August 1st , 2011. He also served in various committees.
The Consul General, has apart from his diplomatic engagements visited at least 34
countries across globe.
Hon. Habu, in 2007, was appointed Presidential Liaison Officer to the late President
Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and was thereafter appointed Director of Protocol to the current
Nigeria Vice President, a position he held until his appointment as the Consul General
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to New York in 2011.
Since assumption of duty, Hon. Habu, in line with President Goodluck Jonathan's
transformation agenda, has drawn up a blue print centered on promoting the Foreign
Policy Objectives of Nigeria by attracting Foreign Direct Investments to facilitate
the boosting of Nigerian Economy, protecting the interest of Nigerian nationals
in New York and the states under his jurisdiction as well as promoting the good
image of our great country. In this regard the Consul General has adopted an open
door policy by collaborating with various Nigeria community leaders in tackling
the challenges facing Nigerians resident in his area of jurisdiction.
